Forgive, Forget, Repent?

Today’s prompt:

Share a story where it was very difficult for you to forgive the perpetrator for wronging you, but you did it — you forgave them.

Photographers, artists, poets: show us REPENTENCE.

I don’t care to share my story in it’s entirety.  What I can tell you is the perpetrator never repented, will never be truly forgiven, nor their crimes forgotten.  What did happen, was personal acceptance, growth, and the ability to move forward.  Not dwelling on the crimes others commit against you, not allowing them to rule your life, your mind, you sense of personal worth and well being are some of the hardest things to do.  But you just have to.  There are times when you have to recognize your own responsibility in a situation, other times you have to recognized that what has happened had nothing to do with anything you did.  Either way, you’ll be better off in the end.  So forgive yourself, forget the notion that things will ever go back to the way they were before said incident because they won’t, you are forever changed…to what degree is up to you, and repent to yourself at the very least your own transgressions.  That personal honesty will help you more than anything else.
